Our accessibility target
Rooted uses WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the engineering target for the current website. That target guides keyboard access, semantic structure, visible focus, contrast, responsive behavior, zoom and reflow, image alternatives, motion preferences and media accessibility.
This statement is not a claim that every page, legacy item, browser or third-party media service has been independently certified as fully conformant.
Legacy archive limitations
The Rooted archive contains nearly two hundred historical entries, including podcast audio, video, images and downloadable office documents created over many years. Some older items do not yet have complete transcripts, caption tracks, audio descriptions or fully accessible document alternatives.
Those limitations are treated as active remediation work, not hidden behind a blanket compliance statement.
Audio and podcast transcripts
Current and high-value audio content should be prioritized for transcripts, with lower-traffic historical audio remediated progressively. If a transcript is not yet available and you need one, request the specific episode through the Rooted contact page.
Video and captions
Video content should provide captions where needed for meaningful spoken content. When important visual information is not conveyed by the audio track, additional description or an equivalent text alternative may also be needed. Third-party video platforms can introduce accessibility limitations beyond Rooted's direct control.
Documents and downloads
Historical PDF, DOCX, PPTX and other downloadable resources may contain structural or reading-order limitations. Important current information should be made available in accessible HTML or another usable format where practical. Visitors may request an alternative version of a specific resource.
Keyboard, focus and navigation
Current navigation and interactive controls are intended to work without a mouse, with visible focus and logical navigation order. Skip navigation is provided to help keyboard and assistive-technology users reach primary content more efficiently.
Images and historical media
Meaningful current images should have useful text alternatives. Decorative imagery should not create unnecessary assistive-technology noise. Historical archive images are being treated as a separate review surface because legacy migration can preserve missing, weak or outdated alternative text.
Third-party media
Podcast hosts, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other external services may have accessibility behavior controlled by those providers. If an external player creates a barrier, contact Rooted and identify the item so another access method can be considered.
Request an alternative format
Use the Rooted contact page and include the page or episode URL, what you were trying to access, the barrier you encountered, and the format or accommodation that would help. A reasonable effort will be made to provide the information another way while the underlying issue is reviewed.
Ongoing remediation
Accessibility review includes manual keyboard testing, screen-reader review, contrast checks, responsive and zoom testing, target-size review, media checks and document review. Automated scanning is useful but is not treated as a substitute for manual testing.
